Do’s and Dont’s to Avoid Injury and Pain
It’s important to be physically active, while at the same time avoiding injuries. This is especially important for a ‘weekend warrior’. If you are sedentary during the week, it’s very important to plan ahead in order to avoid exercise-related injuries.
Be realistic. Don’t expect your body to adapt right away to intense activities. Exercise intensity must be progressive; otherwise the risk for injury increases. Getting some regular exercise every day allows your body to adapt and prepare for your favorite weekend activities.
Warm-up. A simple way to help avoid or minimize injuries, eight to ten minutes of walking or light jogging combined with some light stretching is a great way to prepare your body for exercise.Cool down. When finished with activity, do not come to a sudden stop. Cool down and give your muscles a chance to recover by reducing intensity, but still moving. A cool down period helps restore blood circulation and reduce injuries.
And don’t forget to make sure you wear proper protective gear, and stay hydrated.
